A Day in the Life at a Tech Company

Overview

We all use technology everyday – and certainly now more than ever. And so many of our students will one day work in our world’s major tech companies. But what does it mean to work at a tech company? Who are the people behind the technology we use everyday? Spoiler alert: you don’t have to be a self proclaimed ‘tech nerd’ to work at a tech company. Come learn from a group of IBMers about how the tech world is defined by a combination of technology, business, and professional skills. Learn from their experiences at IBM and how they’ve continued to learn new skills and grow to stay on top of their game and their career.

About the presenters

Jessica Babbin graduated from the University of Alabama, with a double major in finance and economics. At Alabama, she was part of the Business Honors Program, which helps develop students’ project management skills, as well as the Honors College Advisory Board, aimed at improving the Honors College student experience at the University of Alabama.

Maria Martinez is a Senior Consultant at IBM with interest and experience in design thinking, cognitive solutions, data strategy and business development. Passionate about innovation, smart cities, female empowerment, and continuous learning. Graduate of Columbia University with a degree in Urban Studies-Economics.

Alexia Richardson is an MBA graduate from the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School. With experience in consulting, sports marketing, and engineering, she has managed and led cross-functional teams and projects focusing on intrinsic data analysis, complex problem-solving, and market research. Her industry experience includes Media and Entertainment, Energy and Utilities, and Industrial Products.

Bill Daigneault is a highly-recognized Senior Project Executive with over seventeen years of experience with IBM in the IT industry, servicing Communications and Financial Services clients. Leveraging strong client relationships, deep technical knowledge, extensive negotiation experience, and highly effective management skills of geographically dispersed cross-functional teams, he delivers value and innovation to clients as well as financial and operational certainty to the business.

Brooks Barhydt is a Client Executive at IBM supporting clients in media & entertainment, energy & utilities, and the computer services industry. Passionate about helping clients work through complex business challenges to help them achieve their objectives.
